There's something about fabric. It feels so good to work with it. And my palette doesn't have to be mixed; it exists in my stash of fabric. If I feel like it, I can dye or paint my own fabric, but I don't have to; I can buy commercially available prints, batiks, etc. So my medium is fabric with threads and beads sometimes used for embellishment. There's something about sewing. For me, it is often like a meditation. The process of creating a new piece, be it sculptural or two-dimensional, is a peaceful one. My work seems to grow organically. It is rarely preplanned. I often start with a group of fabrics that I want to use together. Other times I may start with a sketch, an idea, or a new technique I want to try. No matter how it starts, though, my work almost always surprises me before it is complete. There's something about curves, both curved lines and shapes. I seem to keep coming back to them, though I do occasionally change direction and work with squares or rectangles. Curves call to me to work with them again and again. There is something so organic, so flowing, and so feminine about curves. They speak to me of sensuality and of fluidity.
